SingleHop f!%!#ed my site up! Sorry for the outage.
I am so sorry that this site has been going bonkers for the past few days! If you are a regular visitor, you can see that somehow, we’ve lost all content posted after 7 November 2013.
Somehow, and to date without explanation, the tech wizards (ahem) at SingleHop, which was supposed to be a highly reputable hosting provider, messed around with the server I share with my friend’s company on the 20th of this month. Without informing me or giving any indication of what they were doing, they somehow took down this site and re-installed a two week old version. All posts uploaded after 7 November were lost. All future posts that I and other writers had lined up to be published this week and over the next few have also been lost.
We will be re-uploading our posts over the coming days (maybe weeks). For some of us (myself included), that means rewriting posts from scratch. So please be patient.
I am simply appalled with the people at SingleHop, who have been unapologetic about this whole thing. I also discovered during this whole boondoggle that even though we pay for a dedicated managed server, the damned thing only gets backed up weekly, despite us previously requesting daily backups. Further, the account we have includes two hard drives; my sites were supposed to be on one and my friend’s on the other. Supposedly, this whole mess came because SingleHop’s techs needed to fix something related to one of my friend’s accounts. If our domains and accounts were on different drives, which was what we had asked for when signing our contract with SingleHop, nothing should have happened to this site. So, clearly, we’ve been hoodwinked.
As you can tell, I am super angry and frustrated. SingleHop’s people have yet to apologize; they continue to act like there’s absolutely nothing wrong with an editorial site losing 2 weeks of published content and almost a month’s worth of upcoming content. Clearly, these guys don’t care at all about customer satisfaction.
Anyway, if any of you can recommend a better host, please comment below or email me. I want to rid myself of these a$$#oles ASAP.
And thank you for coming back and reading. And for your patience while we try and get our content back online.
About Aun Koh
Aun has always loved food and travel, passions passed down to him from his parents. This foundation, plus a background in media, pushed him to start Chubby Hubby in 2005. He loves that this site allows him to write about the things he adores--food, style, travel, his wife and his three kids!
I’m really sorry for your loss. Nonetheless, paranoia in those cases are a good thing. Never rely 100% on a provider, always do a local backup of your posts if possible (even if it’s only a copy-paste of the text, that will save you hours), an ideally do a backup every now and then of all your site and databases (you are using wordpress and there are automatic solutions you can easily implement).
For important data, you should always follow the three rules of backup:
3 copies of anything you care about
2 different formats
1 off-site backup
Obviously, this is valid for your other data (pictures, etc.). May I suggest Crashplan (I’m not affiliated with them) for those data? they allow free off-site backups and is an easy solution that works for all OS.

Good luck with rewriting your posts.
I second this!
MediaTemple. Period.
No wonder I couldn’t load the site on Nov 20th…
Sorry to hear about your experience. These people deserve to go out of business.
Absolutely agree with Peech’s last line.
Take contract, meet lawyer and take these crooks out. Warn other crooks not mess around anymore too.
